Horace Cooper said letting AOC run the Senate is the 'last example of going completely and totally crazy'

Horace Cooper of Project 21 told Fox News on Friday that Democrats’ final “crazy” straw would be to replace Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer with Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

According to a new poll conducted by the left-leaning firm Data for Progress, 55% of likely Democratic voters would support Ocasio-Cortez in the 2028 New York Senate primary, while only 36% supported or lean toward Schumer. While discussing the movement behind the Democratic representative on “Hannity,” Cooper warned progressives in the party not to “go completely crazy.”

“Look, if you have a problem at home because you don’t like what the electrician is doing, you don’t call in an arsonist. I’m not a fan of Chuck Schumer, but progressives should remember not to go crazy,” Cooper said.

“Mark Halperin said a week before the November election that it was very likely, if trends demonstrated where they were headed, that we would see the kind of mental health issues that we’re observing,” according to Cooper.

Schumer faced criticism from members of his own party in March for supporting a Republican-led spending bill to avoid a government shutdown. Despite calls for his resignation, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he will remain in his position.

Cooper went on to criticize the Democrats’ ongoing protests of the Department of Government Efficiency’s Elon Musk and President Donald Trump’s administration. He claimed that party members appeared to have “lost their mind.”

“Now, in America, there are psychotropic drugs that are amazing and could stop you from scratching up every Tesla that you see and, also, after so much of the party has supported high tariffs, from voting almost unanimously with Rand Paul to not have tariffs in Canada,” Cooper told the audience.

“This insanity hurts the party, and it makes it difficult for the American people to trust that there is anybody there that can lead,” Mr. Cooper said. “Putting AOC in charge of the Senate would be the ultimate example of going completely insane.” “They appear to have lost their minds.”

According to the survey, first obtained by Politico, Democratic respondents’ top concerns were “threats to democracy,” “programs like Social Security and Medicare,” and “the economy, jobs, and inflation.”

Since Trump took office, Democrats have struggled to unite behind a message and a leader. A CNN/SSRS poll released on March 16 revealed that the party’s favorability had dropped to a new low of 29%. Notably, more than 30% of respondents were unable to identify a Democratic leader who “best reflects the core values” of the party.

Among those who wrote in their names, 10% chose Ocasio-Cortez, 9% former Vice President Kamala Harris, 8% Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, and 6% House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Only 4% wrote in former President Barack Obama and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, while only 2% supported Schumer and a few others.
