Lewisburg, West Virginia — The Greenbrier Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has announced the start of its Drone Pilot classes for active cadets.
According to a press release, the free courses will allow active cadets to work toward earning their Part 107 FAA drone license beginning on January 20, 2025.
The CAP is a national volunteer organization that acts as an official auxiliary to the United States Air Force. The Squadron meets on Monday nights from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg.
According to the release, the program is open to cadets aged 12 to 18 and includes programs aimed at developing leadership skills, aerospace education, emergency service training, and personal character development.
The drone training program is part of the CAP’s efforts to provide hands-on learning opportunities in aviation, STEM, and emergency services. The program’s goal is to prepare cadets for their FAA Part 107 drone license, which can lead to careers in mapping, surveying, aerial photography, and more.
According to the release, the Greenbrier Composite Squadron is also looking for guest speakers and instructors in a variety of subjects including emergency services, STEM, aerospace, and character development.
