A Wisconsin man who allegedly threw a baby over a second-story balcony is now facing felony charges and in jail.
Jaimann Eiland, 31, was arrested on March 15 after prosecutors claimed he “intentionally threw” a 1-year-old girl from the balcony of the baby’s mother, Shakira Walters, whose age was not disclosed.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by WITI, a local Fox affiliate, an argument broke out between Walters and Eiland on March 13 after she heard her baby cry. According to WITI, the altercation escalated, and Eiland allegedly pulled out a knife and told Walters, “You gon’ die today.”
According to the criminal complaint, the argument became increasingly heated, culminating in Eiland allegedly grabbing the little girl by the head, dangling her over the second-story balcony of the home, and dropping her onto the wet lawn outside, narrowly missing an air conditioning unit. Eiland then returned to the house, according to the complaint, and allegedly assaulted Walters.
WISN, a local ABC affiliate, spoke with Walters, who told the outlet that the little girl “could have died.” She could’ve been seriously hurt by that, and I’m just mad.” Walters told WISN that despite the fall, the little girl only had minor bruising. But she told the outlet that she thought Eiland “was definitely trying to kill my baby.”
According to the criminal complaint, the investigation began when officers responded to Froedtert Hospital, where Walters had taken herself and the baby following an alleged brawl with Eiland, Walters’ mother’s ex-husband.
According to WITI, the baby suffered minor injuries, while Walters received treatment for a sprained finger and a laceration on her forehead that required three stitches. Walters also reportedly had a swollen hand, leg pain, and a blood-stained shirt.
According to the criminal complaint, a bloody knife was found at the home.
During an interview after his arrest, Eiland reportedly told police that he and Walters played “tug-of-war” with the baby before he allegedly threw her off the balcony. According to WITI, Eiland admitted that the fight had escalated following the baby’s fall, but he did not believe he went overboard.
Eiland was booked into Milwaukee County Jail on charges of substantial battery with a domestic abuse modifier and child abuse. Following his court appearance on March 17, bail was set at $15,000.
If he is able to post bail, he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device upon release. If released, he is not permitted to contact Walters or any other family members. His next court appearance is March 24.
