A woman who voted for Donald Trump three times in a row says the President has caused her “devastation” with the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) recent cuts.
Jennifer Piggott, who voted for Donald Trump in every presidential election, is devastated after losing her government job during the massive layoffs. Piggott told Reuters in November that while President Trump was running for president in 2024, she proudly displayed a Trump flag outside her home.
That is no longer the case, as she claims that despite voting for him consistently, she no longer supports the president after he cost her her job.
Piggott was one of 125 federal workers laid off in February from the Treasury Department’s Bureau of Fiscal Service (BFS) in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a community that, according to Reuters, voted “overwhelmingly” for Donald Trump in November, when he won West Virginia by 70%.
“I feel a little bit betrayed,” Piggott told Reuters.
“There’s always that back-and-forth conversation now it’s like, ‘You knew this was coming,’ but we didn’t, like, nobody that I’ve talked to understood the devastation that having this administration in office would do to our lives.”
She also reportedly told the publication that she would not have supported Trump if she had known then what she knows now.
“As much as I think that President Trump is doing wonderful things for the country in some regards, I don’t understand this at all,” she told the crowd.
Piggott had just been promoted at BFS after five years of service before being let go by DOGE. In an effort to reduce costs for American taxpayers, the Trump administration collaborated with DOGE to fire thousands of federal employees.
In making this decision, Elon Musk stated that his goal was to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. In October, he stated that he hoped to cut the federal budget by “at least $2 trillion,” and he repeated the claim in January, saying, “We’ll try for $2 trillion.” I think that’s the best-case scenario.”
“I think if we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting one,” according to him.
“The concept of voting for that again, voting for Elon Musk to essentially to wreck people’s lives – I can’t do it,” she told me.
