The IRS gives advice on how to avoid scams on your Tax Return

Every year, as soon as Tax Season begins, thousands of citizens in the United States begin sending documents to the IRS in order to receive their tax refund as soon as possible.

However, many other United States citizens do not send all of their documents right away because they may not know how to do so completely.

And, while it is true that the IRS provides free assistance in filing your tax return each year, it is also true that not all Americans are eligible for this assistance, as certain requirements must be met. So, Americans who are unable to access Direct File or any other free program must seek assistance.

It is also true that not all Americans seek help. Some Americans can send the documentation without assistance, but this is not uncommon because the Tax Return can be complicated for many citizens. And the IRS warns that not all help is beneficial.

The IRS warns of scams in Tax Return assistance

If we need assistance sending our tax return documents to the IRS, we should consider a number of suggestions. If we do not keep these suggestions in mind, we risk falling victim to scams that cause us to lose some of our money.

So, remember the following before asking for help sending your tax return to the IRS:

  • Don’t sign incomplete documents.
  • Make sure that the agent helping you has an official IRS license.
  • Be wary of agents who assure you that you will get a much higher tax refund than you usually do.
  • Consult the IRS if you have any doubts.

We must not be misled by the words of scammers who wish to steal our information. It is possible that they will be able to steal money from us in the future thanks to our documentation. From applying for loans to stealing the entire tax refund or a significant portion of it.

Nonetheless, keep in mind that the Internal Revenue Service provides free assistance to thousands of Americans. Before seeking assistance from an agent of dubious origin, ensure that you are eligible for this official assistance.

Remember that you have until April 15th to send your tax return documentation, but the sooner you send it, the sooner you will receive your tax refund.
