The Washington, D.C. police department is investigating GOP Rep. Cory Mills for allegedly assaulting a woman with whom he is reportedly in a relationship.

According to the first police report obtained by News4, the woman’s “significant other for over a year grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door.” According to the report, she showed the officer “bruises on her arm which appeared fresh.”

She allowed officers to hear Subject 1 [now identified by MPD as Mills] instruct her to lie about the origin of her bruises. Subject 1 eventually spoke with police and admitted that the situation had escalated from verbal to physical, but it was severe enough to cause bruising.

Mills has been married to Rana Al Saadi since 2014, and they have two children.

The Florida congressman is a staunch Trump supporter and is currently serving his second term in the House.

Officers responded to a reported assault around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19.

Mills has not yet been arrested, and no charges have been brought against him. He’s scheduled to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington later this week.

Mills denies any wrongdoing, according to a statement from his spokesperson to the Daily Beast.

“Law enforcement was asked this week to resolve a private matter at Congressman Mills’ home. “Congressman Mills vehemently denies any wrongdoing and is confident that any investigation will resolve this matter quickly,” the spokesperson said.

NBC obtained a text message from the alleged victim stating: “While the personal matter in question was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation.”

She explained that the bruises were caused by medical conditions and activities during a recent overseas trip.

Rep. Mills, a United States Army veteran, intends to run for Senate in Florida, replacing Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The Republican is also being investigated by the House Committee on Ethics for a matter submitted in August of last year.
