West Virginia — During the previous fiscal year, the number of children who visited Child Advocacy Centers in West Virginia due to drug endangerment allegations was four times the national average, according to officials.
According to an annual report from the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network, 16 percent of the 4,909 children who passed through West Virginia’s 21 CACs – or approximately 785 – were there due to alleged drug endangerment during the fiscal year 2024.
According to officials, the nearly 5,000 children served accounted for an 8% increase in new children served over the last five years.
