According to the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office, a Midlands woman died Saturday after her motorcycle was involved in a crash that also injured two other people.
Bridget Gay Baker, a 49-year-old Lee County resident, died in what Coroner David West described as an accident.
Lance Cpl. Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the two-vehicle collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. in Kershaw County.
Baker was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on Lucknow Road, according to Butler. A 2024 Kia SUV was driving north on Lucknow Road and turning left when it collided with the motorcycle, according to officials.
Baker, who did not wear a helmet, died on the scene, according to West. According to Butler, Baker was the only person riding on the motorcycle.
Butler said both the SUV driver and a passenger were injured and transported to a nearby hospital. More information about their conditions was not available.
No additional injuries were reported.
There was no word on whether either of the people in the SUV wore seat belts.
Butler and West declined to comment on whether the crash is still under investigation.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, at least 33 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2025 as of January 26. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, at least 948 people were killed in crashes last year.
DPS data show that at least one person died in a Kershaw County crash in 2025. The county had ten deaths in 2024, according to DPS data.
