Say goodbye to SSI checks in February for these beneficiaries — here’s why

SSI recipients will miss out on their February Social Security benefits next month. It should be noted that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is in charge of paying these and other beneficiaries.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides financial assistance to retirees, survivors, and their families, as well as anyone who is unable to work due to disability.

In this sense, the United States government offers two programs: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD), which is based on the beneficiary’s work history, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for low-income seniors.

This program provides monthly checks to both the disabled person and family members who have worked long enough to be eligible for Social Security benefits. However, the Supplemental Security Income program does not require a work history. It provides funds for basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter to people 65 and older or disabled.

Here is the reason why beneficiaries will not receive SSI checks in February

Those eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) do not need to have a work history to receive this benefit. SSI provides funds for necessities such as food, clothing, and housing to those 65 and older, as well as those with disabilities. As a result, even if their work history is insufficient to qualify for Social Security benefits, they are not considered to have them.

People who receive Supplemental Security Income have a paycheck. In other words, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has designated a specific day on the calendar on which only SSI recipients receive benefits.

Every month begins with today. Beneficiaries of the SSI program receive their checks on the first of every month. Having said that, they will not be paid for this month until February 1, 2025. What is the rationale for making this payment on Friday, December 31?

Because February 1, 2025, is a Saturday, ISS regulations require that payments be made on the previous school day when they fall on a weekend or holiday. It is something that will be done several times at the beginning of the year.

Social Security has confirmed SSI checks, retirement survivor, and disability benefits schedule

SSI recipients receive their checks on the first of each month, so they are the first to receive their money. As if that wasn’t enough, there are several months at the start of the year when you’ll get your check early.

Why? Because the payday falls on a weekend or holiday, the first payment of the year was rescheduled for December 31, 2024, as January 1st is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday. Beneficiaries will receive their SSI checks on the following dates:

  • February: January 31, 2025.
  • March: February 28, 2025.

On the other hand, according to the Social Security payment schedule, retired workers, survivors, and disabled people will receive their Social Security benefits on the following days:

February

  • February 12th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 1st and the 10th
  • February 19th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 11th and the 20th
  • February 26th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 21st and 31st

March

  • March 12th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 1st and the 10th
  • March 19th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 11th and the 20th
  • March 26th: For beneficiaries who were born between the 21st and 31st
