Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management alerts citizens of the risk for floods in the area

Greenbrier County, WV —The Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department is continuing to monitor the potential for flooding in the area.

The department has been in contact with the US National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA, regarding flooding in the Greenbrier River.

The river is likely to flood on Sunday and into Monday.

The department does not want residents to panic, but advises all property owners in and around the floodplain to secure or relocate their belongings as soon as possible and devise an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.

Residents who own towed campers along the river should remove them from the floodplain as soon as possible.

Renick, Caldwell, Ronceverte, Alderson, and Hinton are all cities located near the floodplain.

The department has emergency management plans in place, and they will provide information on shelters, food, and cleaning supplies as needed.
