An 8-year-old student died after being stabbed by a teacher at an elementary school in South Korea, according to multiple news reports citing authorities.
According to the Yonhap News Agency and Reuters, police arrived at the school in Daejeon on February 10 and discovered the child and the female teacher, who was in her 40s, with stab wounds.
The girl, who had been stabbed in the neck and arm, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, according to police. The child was reported missing because she did not attend an after-school art class.
According to Yonhap, the teacher, who was being treated at the hospital, allegedly admitted to stabbing during a police interview.
Yonhap reported, citing police, that the teacher returned to school last year after taking a leave of absence for depression. It is unclear whether the woman has been arrested or charged, and no motive has been determined.
