Portland – Governor Janet Mills has announced that Maine Forest Rangers and volunteer firefighters will travel to California to assist in the fight against the devastating wildfires.
Over the last week, wildfires have destroyed approximately 40,000 acres in the Los Angeles area.
The team will arrive in California on Tuesday to help first responders on the ground.
The crews consist of eight Forest Rangers and 12 volunteer firefighters.
The Forest Rangers say they want to help not only Californians, but also bring back knowledge that will benefit Mainers.
“It’s a good learning tool for our guys that are out there how to fight these fires using less water, and that’s something they can bring back here to the State of Maine that helps out that state also,” Ben Goodwin, the state’s forest ranger, said.
