In April 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) continues to send Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments according to the usual schedule based on the beneficiary’s date of birth. While most payments have already been made this month, a few are still being processed.

SSDI Payment Dates for April 2025
SSDI payments are issued on three different Wednesdays each month, based on your birth date. Here’s the schedule for April 2025:
April 9 – For people born between the 1st and 10th of any month
April 16 – For those born between the 11th and 20th
April 23 – For those born between the 21st and 31st
If you started receiving SSDI before May 1997, or if you receive both SSDI and SSI, your payment will be sent earlier, on April 3. This is also the date for those living outside the U.S., or those with state-covered Medicare premiums.
For May 2025, the same payment schedule will repeat, falling on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
How Much Will You Receive in April 2025?
The average SSDI payments for April 2025, including the 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), are:
- $1,580/month – for a single disabled worker
- $2,826/month – for a disabled worker with a spouse or children
- $4,018/month – is the maximum monthly benefit possible, depending on your past income and age at the time of disability
These amounts depend on each person’s work history, earnings record, and when they became disabled. The SSA uses a system called AIME (Average Indexed Monthly Earnings) to calculate your benefit.
When Will You Get Your SSDI Payment?
Direct deposits usually arrive after 12:01 a.m. on your scheduled date. However, it may take a few hours for your bank to process the payment.
If you’re receiving a physical check, it could take up to three business days after your payment date to arrive.
The SSA advises that if your payment is late, you should:

What About People Who Also Get SSI?
If you receive SSI along with SSDI, you’ll usually get both payments on the 3rd of each month. But if the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the last working day before it.
In April 2025, the SSI/SSDI combined payment has already been sent on April 3. For May, since May 3rd falls on a Saturday, the next payment will arrive on Friday, May 2.
VA Benefits and Their Payment Schedule
If you or your family members receive Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, your payment is made on the 1st of every month.
For May 2025, the VA payment will arrive on May 1. In some months, like March 2025, the VA sent payments early—on April 1, due to calendar adjustments.
