A woman is accused with attempted break-in, burglary, and trespassing

White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia –  A woman was arrested in Greenbrier County on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly attempting to break into a White Sulphur Springs residence and steal items, according to authorities.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a trespassing call at a home in the 5300 block of Pocahontas Trail around 12:58 p.m. after receiving reports from the homeowner. The victim stated that his 11-year-old son had contacted him, reporting that Chelsie Kineaid was on the property, attempting to take items and possibly break into the house.

When the deputy arrived, the accused was seen on the porch, while another person, later identified as George Carter, was discovered sitting in a nearby vehicle with the hatch open. Both individuals were detained on the scene.

According to police, Kineaid admitted to using a key she found on the porch to enter the basement of the house. She also allegedly used a screwdriver to gain access through another door and attempted to open a window. Kineaid claimed she was at the house to retrieve her belongings, which the homeowner had placed outside in totes about six weeks ago.

The victim confirmed that the accused had previously stayed at the home for about a week but had not been granted permission to return. He stated that he had last communicated with her about collecting her property more than a month ago.

Two juveniles inside the house at the time told deputies that the woman knocked on the front door before going into the basement. One of the children confronted her, telling her to leave. They said she then tried to break in through the upper level, hitting the front door with a hammer and attempting to open a bedroom window after climbing onto an HVAC unit.

The juveniles also claimed that the accused began moving items from the porch, including a dirt bike, which was later discovered in the front yard. A screwdriver was discovered jammed in a side door lock, and a dog cage had been moved inside the home.

Kineaid was arrested and is expected to face charges including trespassing, attempted burglary, and attempted theft. The case will be heard in the Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.
