She then discovered that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had never received payment.

The Atlanta, Georgia resident claims she paid $15,000 in back taxes for her 93-year-old mother.

The IRS then informed her that it had not received a single payment.

“I want to take care of her the way she took care of us,” says Hines.

Hines now claims she is disputing with a local tax service after paying thousands of dollars to clear her mother’s debt.

In 2024, Hines informed ABC affiliate WSB-TV that she had hired Whitlan Tax Service to handle the payments.

She claims the business owners informed her that the total owed was $15,000.

“She said, no, we don’t want a check, we need cash,” Hines remembered.

Rather than sending money to the IRS, Hines claims the owner asked her to pay using Zelle, Cash App, or wire transfers.

Bank statements show that she made regular deposits into the owner’s accounts.

After the final deposit was made, Hines stated that the company stopped responding.

“I’ve tried, I’ve called, I’ve done everything that I know to do,” she went on.

The company provided no explanation as to why the IRS did not receive the payments.

In 2024, the Secretary of State’s Office dissolved Carjay Financial, an LLC.

The state claims the owners had no legal right to operate.

Hines claims they continued to collect money from her anyway.

According to public records, the owner applied for a new business license in March under a different name, which is still active.

“I just want the taxes to be paid,” she said.

After hiring a new certified public accountant (CPA), Hines claims she discovered that no tax payments had ever been made on her mother’s behalf.

She also claims she cannot refile because Whitlan Tax Service still has her original documents.

Hines claims that the owner later called her, promising to return her paperwork and refund her money by Friday.
