RONCEVERTE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A man who was previously arrested for domestic assault is being investigated again after a violent altercation at a Dollar General store in Ronceverte on Thursday, April 17.

Trooper J.D. Dowdy of the West Virginia State Police was dispatched to the store at 2715 Seneca Trail South around 6:05 p.m. after receiving reports of a domestic dispute in progress. According to the store manager, Alphrin Norman and his wife were seen arguing inside the store before the situation escalated to physical violence.

She reported seeing Norman grab the female repeatedly while shouting at her, prompting her to dial 911. Moments later, a bystander entered the store and claimed to have seen Norman punch the female in the parking lot. The pair then fled the scene in a dark-colored Ford SUV, driving towards Monroe County and leaving the victim’s sister behind.

Trooper Dowdy, accompanied by a Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Deputy familiar with the couple, confirmed Norman’s arrest on March 21 for domestic assault against the female. A court order issued at the time prohibited Norman from making any direct or indirect contact with her.

Surveillance footage from the Dollar General confirmed the manager’s account, showing Norman pushing and grabbing the victim in front of several witnesses. A written statement from the victim’s sister confirmed the account, describing how the victim ran into the store, pursued by Norman, who was yelling about a missing phone.

Efforts to find the couple following the incident were unsuccessful. Officers arrived at the Childers Road home and were informed that the couple had not returned.

Authorities are still looking for Alphrin Norman and urging anyone with information on the couple’s whereabouts to contact the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office.

Trooper Dowdy stated that, based on evidence and witness testimony, there is reason to believe Norman violated his no-contact order and intentionally caused physical harm to his wife.

Norman was subsequently arrested and charged with domestic battery.
