LEWISBURG, W.VA – Carnegie Hall’s commitment to lifelong learning includes a series of classes and workshops designed to enlighten and inspire students of all ages.
These unique learning opportunities are primarily taught in small group settings at the Hall. Kathy Talley will teach a Josephine Knot Market Basket workshop on Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Spring 2025 Classes and Workshops.
As part of Carnegie Hall’s Appalachian Heritage Series, the Josephine Knot Market Basket class teaches students how to make a functional and beautiful basket at the beginner level. Participants will learn basic weaving techniques while creating and shaping this durable, all-purpose carry-all.
The functional design includes a solid wood swing handle and a decorative Josephine knot in the center. The instructor will provide all of the materials and tools needed to make this basket. Students must be 16 years of age or older, and no experience is required.
Registration costs $125 for members and $145 for nonmembers, but scholarships are available for Greenbrier County students and participants over the age of 50, who pay only $45.
