Social Security Administration Confirmed Updated Amounts and Dates for SSDI Payments

For millions of people in the United States living with a disability, monthly payments from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are a vital source of income. These payments help cover everyday needs such as rent, food, medicines, and other essentials. That’s why knowing exactly when your payment is coming can make a big difference.

In April 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that SSDI payments will follow the usual schedule based on the recipient’s date of birth. Here’s everything you need to know about payment dates, amounts, and who qualifies.

When Are SSDI Payments Being Made in April 2025?

SSDI payments for April are being sent out on three Wednesdays:

  • April 9, 2025 – for people born between the 1st and 10th
  • April 16, 2025 – for people born between the 11th and 20th
  • April 23, 2025 – for people born between the 21st and 31st

These payments are only for those who started receiving SSDI after May 1997. If you claimed benefits before May 1997, you are part of a different group, and your payment would have already been sent on April 3.

Additionally, if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) along with SSDI, your payment was also made on April 3. Since May 3 falls on a Saturday, your next SSI/SSDI payment will arrive a day earlier, on Friday, May 2, 2025.

How Are the Payments Delivered?

Payments are made by direct deposit or by physical checks, depending on what you’ve chosen.

  • Direct deposits usually arrive starting from 12:01 a.m. on your payment day.
  • If you’re waiting for a physical check, it may take up to three business days to arrive by post.

If your payment is delayed, the SSA recommends contacting your bank first. If there’s still an issue after three business days, you can reach out to the Social Security helpline at 1-800-772-1213, or use their TTY line at 1-800-325-0778. You can also log in at Login.gov or visit your nearest SSA office to raise a complaint.

How Much Will You Get in April 2025?

The payment amount depends on several factors, including your work history, age at the time of disability, and average income before becoming disabled. In 2025, a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) has already been applied to all benefits.

Here’s a breakdown of the average monthly SSDI amounts in April 2025:

Beneficiary TypeAverage Monthly Payment
Individual Disabled Worker$1,580
With Spouse or Children$2,826
Maximum SSDI Benefit Possible$4,018

Remember, the maximum amount is usually given to people who had higher incomes, worked for 35+ years, and applied for benefits at the ideal time.

VA Benefits Are Paid Separately

If you or your family receive Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, those are paid on the 1st of each month. So, the next VA payment will be made on May 1, 2025. In March, the April VA benefit was sent early on April 1.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Late

If your SSDI or VA payment hasn’t arrived:

  1. Wait three business days after your scheduled payment date.
  2. Check with your bank or financial institution.
  3. Call the SSA helpline or visit their website to report the issue.
  4. Update your information, if needed, including your address or bank account.

Always keep your details updated with the SSA to avoid delays.
