Lewisburg hosts the 17th Annual Chocolate Festival

Lewisburg, West Virginia (WVDN) – The sidewalks of historic downtown Lewisburg were buzzing with “sweet” anticipation as the 17th annual Lewisburg Chocolate Festival began on Saturday, attracting hundreds of visitors from across West Virginia and beyond for a day dedicated solely to the art and indulgence of chocolate.

The Chocolate Festival concluded Saturday afternoon, with the fragrance of melting chocolate wafting through the cool Appalachian air, attracting hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors to this historic town for a celebration of sweetness, community, and creativity.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., various local shops and vendors served a variety of chocolate-themed delicacies across town. Truffles, chocolate-dipped bacon, gourmet brownies, and innovative chocolate-infused dishes are just a few of the samples that will entice your taste buds around every corner.

The event, a long-standing springtime tradition, transforms the lovely town into a chocolate and food lover’s paradise. Even though the weather should have been better, this year’s festival drew a large crowd.

In addition to the tasting tour, the event included a wide range of entertainment and family-friendly activities. Live music resonated down Washington Street, with performances by area artists adding a colorful soundtrack to the day.

Street performers and magicians amuse the audience, while children may enjoy games, balloon art, and face painting throughout downtown.

Culinary demos were also scheduled, highlighting regional chefs who utilize chocolate in both traditional and unexpected ways. Patrons waited in large queues for each section, anxious to enjoy the wonderful treats.

What began in 2008 as a modest village event has grown into a regional attraction, attracting thousands of visitors each year and selling up to 40,000 tasting tickets in certain years. The event’s expansion has never deviated from its initial objective of showcasing local talent, entertaining the public, and raising funds for a worthy cause.

For early risers, the day began with the Chocolate Chase, a 5K, 10K, and fun walk organized by Greenbrier Valley Hospice. Runners and walkers were both met at the finish line with a well-deserved chocolate treat.

A percentage of the event’s revenues will help the United Way of Greenbrier Valley, which provides critical community services in education, financial stability, and health.

According to the organizers, the festival has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years and continues to expand in terms of attendance and community effect.

The United Way of Greenbrier Valley contributes to several programs that promote health, education, and financial stability throughout the community.

With hundreds of tasting tickets available, guests were encouraged to arrive early and hungry. There were several parking lots throughout town, many of which charged a fee, and volunteers were stationed throughout the event to assist tourists and answer questions.

According to organizers, the event grows year after year, generating funds for local causes while also boosting tourism and shining a focus on Lewisburg’s thriving downtown, which has been recognized nationwide for its charm and history.

The Lewisburg Chocolate Festival has become a signature event in southern West Virginia, known for both its culinary innovation and its dedication to giving back. And when the throng fades from downtown’s wonderful environment and music floats through the air, it’s clear that this small town knows how to put on a “sweet” performance.
