Canada's New Regulations May Devastate New York

Canada has made it dangerous to enter New York State. Here’s what you should know.

Canada is changing the rules for people entering New York State. This latest move is a reaction to President Donald Trump’s policies.

Canada Changes Rules For People Entering New York State

Beginning April 11, changes will take effect for Canadians crossing the border into the United States.

Starting Friday, all Canadians planning to spend more than 30 days in New York or other states must register and be fingerprinted by US authorities.

“All above the age of 14 who remain in the United States for 30 days or longer must apply for registration and to be fingerprinted before the expiration of 30 days,” according to the warning.

This rule is now in effect after Trump signed the “Protecting the American People Against Invasion” order, which requires all visitors staying for more than 30 days to register with the United States, according to the Vancouver Sun.

Anyone who does not follow this new policy may face penalties, fines, and up to six months in jail.

“Willful failure or refusal to apply to register or to be fingerprinted is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment for up to six months,” according to the guidance.

According to Newsweek, this rule comes after many people were detained at the border over visa issues.
