CHARLESTON, West Virginia (WDTV) – West Virginia lawmakers approved the “Universal Professional and Occupational Licensing Act.”
The law allows licensed and certified professionals to practice in West Virginia without having to take additional exams for local licensure or certification. The governor claims that this legislation will promote growth and economic development throughout the state.
According to experts, this bill will also open up new markets in West Virginia, making the mountain state more appealing to both businesses and workers.
“It covers a broad range of occupations,” said WVU Knee Regulatory Research Center Associate Kihwan Bee to 5 News.
“For example, medical physician licensure compacts are only applicable to physicians. Some licensure compacts only apply to nurses. However, this universal recognition extends to almost all licensed occupations in West Virginia.
This legislation specifically excludes lawyers. It is common in all states with universal recognition laws because they are administered by the judicial branch. They are different. But medication is included. Dental workers are included.
