Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal program administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) that provides substantial monthly financial assistance to seniors, people with disabilities, and children with physical or mental disabilities.
It was designed from the start to help people with limited economic resources and low incomes by providing a vital minimum to cover basic needs like food, housing, and medical care.
The maximum amounts approved by the Social Security Administration for 2025 are $967 for a single applicant and $1,450 for a couple applying together.
A third item (uncommon but legal in the program) is that of “essential help person,” which provides an allowance for beneficiaries who receive assistance from someone who helps them with tasks as simple as bathing, cooking, or even brushing their teeth. For them, the maximum payment is $484.
SSI payments restart after a “pause” in March
Before we begin, let me clarify the eligibility requirements for this program: applicants for SSI must meet strict income and resource requirements. Individuals have asset limits of $2,000 and couples have limits of $3,000, excluding their primary residence and vehicle.
Furthermore, the SSA is constantly monitoring beneficiaries’ financial or health situations, which may affect the amounts received or even result in the suspension of benefits.
Now, let’s talk about payment dates, because some people were confused when they didn’t see a deposit in their bank accounts. SSI beneficiaries did not receive a payment for that month because March 1 was a Saturday, so it was moved forward to Friday, February 28.
The first day of April 2025 is a Tuesday, so the payment for that month will be delivered on the usual date. March is not part of the regular calendar because SSI only makes monthly deposits.
In the remaining months of the year, adjustments will be made for weekend coincidences. For example, since June 1, 2025 is a Sunday, the deposit will be moved to Friday, May 30.
Similar situations will occur in September (Monday 1) and December (Sunday 1), with payments made on Friday, August 29 and Friday, November 28, respectively.
