Tuesday is set aside for the statewide tornado drill in West Virginia

Clarksburg, West Virginia (WBOY) — If you receive an emergency alert or hear warning sirens on Tuesday, March 25, don’t be concerned; it’s just a drill.

The West Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill is scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 25, 2025. During the simulation, the Emergency Alert System will broadcast to local television and radio stations, including WBOY, and certain emergency sirens will sound.

Although most people will not receive an emergency warning on their cellphones, others may, depending on how their alerts are set up.

The practice is intended to test tornado protection plans and alarm systems. For further information on what to do during a tornado:

“Tornadoes can strike at any time of day, so it’s important to have a plan for any location where you spend a significant amount of time,” the National Weather Service FAQ page states.

If there is severe weather on the day of the drill, it will be canceled.
