West Virginia students qualified for archery in the Schools State Tournament

Charleston, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) announced today that students from 64 schools have qualified to compete in this year’s Archery in the Schools State Tournament, which will be held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center on Saturday, March 29.

“Archery in the Schools is a fantastic program that teaches focus, discipline, and sportsmanship,” WVDNR Director Brett McMillion stated. “We’re proud of these students for their dedication and look forward to an exciting state tournament this year.”

Approximately 1,400 students from 94 West Virginia schools competed in the state qualifier. The top eight teams, as well as the top 15 individual boys and girls from elementary, middle, and high school, will compete in the state tournament. Students from the following schools qualified for this year’s tournament:

“We want to congratulate these schools and the students who worked hard to make it to the state tournament this year,” said Chris Scraggs, the WVDNR’s Archery in Schools program coordinator.

“I’d also like to thank coaches, volunteers, conservation and educational organizations for helping make this fantastic program possible year after year.”

The state tournament will begin at 10 a.m., with students shooting the first arrows of the day. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 9 a.m. The tournament will wrap up with an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to come.

Tickets are $10 for adults 18 and up and $5 for children ages 6-17. Children under the age of six get in for free. Tickets will be available from the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Box Offices.

Tournament competition is only open to schools that have completed National Archery in Schools (NASP) training and adhere to NASP rules.
