Multiple earthquakes have shook the United States this week, including one with a magnitude of 5.0.

On Wednesday, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Westlake Village in Los Angeles County. A few hours later, the US Geological Survey detected a 2.5-magnitude earthquake just outside of San Francisco.

Before the earthquakes in California, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake was reported in Hawaii. This was the precursor to something far more powerful.

The US Geological Survey reported a 5.0-magnitude earthquake in Alaska on Wednesday. This is the second earthquake to strike Alaska this month.

The recent increase in earthquakes in the United States has some people concerned that the “Big One” will strike California in the near future. However, the director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network believes that will not happen.

“We frequently experience magnitudes of 3 to 3.5, which are enough to draw people’s attention but not cause damage,” Tobin told MyNorthWest. “I do not see them as showing me any sign that they are leading up to something bigger.”

In the meantime, the USGS will continue to monitor all earthquakes.
