W.Va. Treasurer's Office online guns auction receives a $26,000 winning bid

PARKERSBURG, West Virginia (WTAP) – The West Virginia State Treasurer announced the winning bid amount for the first online firearms auction.

On Tuesday, State Treasurer Larry Pack announced that the winning bid for the first online firearms auction in the Office’s history was $26,150. It was purchased from a registered federal firearms license (FFL) dealer in Pennsylvania.

According to the release, the online auction, which ended on Monday, March 10, received more than 50 bid submissions from licensed dealers in 13 states.

“I am proud to put these dollars back into law enforcement agencies so they can purchase the equipment they need to better serve the public,” said Pack, the treasurer.

“This was the first time dealers were allowed to place bids online.” My office will continue to hold these online auctions to help modernize our Unclaimed Property Program and increase the market value of sales by securing purchasing power from dealers in multiple states.”

According to the Treasurer’s Office, the first online auction featured 113 firearms and 400 pounds of ammunition for bids. The winning bidder will collect their firearms this week.

The next online auction is scheduled for April 14–28. There will be over 200 firearms available for bidding during that time.

In addition to online auctions, the Treasurer’s Office will continue to hold separate on-site auctions where FFL dealers must attend in person. The next in-person firearms auction is set for March 27 in Kanawha City. The auction will include approximately 625 firearms.
