Tony Hawk wishes Kurt Cobain were still alive to meet his shared grandson, Ronin Walker

Tony Hawk, a skateboarding legend, recently paid heartfelt tribute to the late Kurt Cobain, saying he wishes the Nirvana frontman could have met their grandson.

Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, married Riley Hawk, Tony Hawk’s son, in October 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, on September 17, 2024.

Tony shared an Instagram story featuring a ticket stub from a Nirvana concert he attended in Houston, Texas, in October 1991. He described the concert as “transformative as live music can possibly be” and said he witnessed “something rare and powerful.” Later, he expressed his wish that Kurt had been alive to see their grandchild.

“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.”

Kurt tragically committed suicide in April 1994, at the age of 27. An electrician discovered his body three days later, on April 8, in the greenhouse above Cobain’s garage in Seattle. A shotgun lay across his chest, and a suicide note was discovered nearby. The coroner’s report stated that Cobain had a high concentration of heroin and traces of Valium in his bloodstream at the time of death.

Cobain had shown signs of distress in the weeks before his suicide, including a drug overdose in Rome in March and an escape from a rehabilitation center in Los Angeles on April 1. Despite efforts by friends, family, and associates to locate and assist him, Cobain eventually committed suicide.

Frances Bean, 32, was a toddler when Kurt died. She is Courtney Love’s only child.
