Linda Yvette Mathis, the television personality’s wife of nearly four decades, filed for divorce in late 2024, leading many to believe that Judge Mathis cheated on his wife.
There was no real evidence to back up these claims.
But try explaining that to people on social media.
Judge Mathis’ wife Linda filed for divorce on August 22, citing “irreconcilable differences” and seeking spousal support.
A simple request, but given the fandom’s desire for answers, the Internet set out to discover why the couple was splitting up. After all, no one leaves a marriage after nearly 40 years without a major issue to blame.
Of course, as with most celebrity couples, speculation arose that someone, specifically Judge Mathis, was unfaithful.
But, as rumors spread that he had strayed, the story changed from one of cheating to one of a secret love child!
Yes, the “side baby” narrative began to take hold. That is, people began discussing Judge Matthis having a child as a result of an extramarital affair.
But talk is just that: talk. There were no reports indicating this, and no scorned woman came forward to confirm the scandal. However, the conversation was becoming louder, so Mathis had to step up.
After initially remaining silent about the reasons for his split, Judge Mathis eventually spoke with TMZ and clarified a few points:
- He and his wife are still living under the same roof.
- He is determined to win Linda back over and remain married.
- And, no, he did NOT commit adultery.
“It is the worst days of my life,” Mathis told this celebrity gossip website while at the airport.
He went on to accept responsibility for the breakup, saying:
“Perhaps I will set an example for another man — a cautionary tale. Do not neglect your wife. “That is what happens, guys.”
Mathis even admitted that he could understand why his wife might suspect he was sneaking around with another woman, though he denied this was the case.
Mathis told TMZ that neglect can certainly lead to suspicions.
“If you are gone as much as I am, she has every reason to suspect. You go to work, and you go to serve the communities across the country.
“Then you travel around the country with your friends to sporting events, and you attend other events without your wife. She would have reason to suspect infidelity.”
To be absolutely clear, however?
“That is not the reason for this,” he added.
Linda and Judge Mathis have two daughters, Jade, 40, and Camara, 36, and two sons, Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34.
It sounds like a family worth fighting for—and that is exactly what the TV judge intends to do!
“I committed to staying at home more and prioritizing my wife, but as you can see, I haven’t,” Mathis admitted to TMZ. “I am still here on the road doing the same thing in terms of going out and to another city.”
Mathis concluded, however, by stating unequivocally to TMZ during their conversation that he is determined to right all romantic wrongs.
“I am getting my wife back.”
