Lewisburg, WV – The Greenbrier Humane Society is treating puppies with a viral illness.
According to their Facebook page, the humane society is treating a few puppies for parvovirus, which can be fatal if left untreated.
The American Kennel Club states that parvovirus can spread through direct contact with an infected dog or indirect contact with a contaminated object. Puppies can be exposed to parvovirus by sniffing, licking, or eating infected feces.
In response to this situation, Greenbrier Humane Society employees spent hours thoroughly cleaning their facility and any areas that may have been exposed. They claim they are taking every precaution to ensure the health of all animals.
They are asking the public to help by donating. Donations will go directly toward covering the medical costs associated with treating puppies infected with the virus. You can make a donation in person at 151 Holliday Lane Lewisburg, WV 24901, by mail at P.O. Box 926 Lewisburg, WV 24901, or over the phone at 304-645-4775. They also need more supplies to keep the puppies as comfortable as possible while they recover. Donations of towels, blankets, treats, and other items are extremely helpful during these times.
As a result of vaccination, older dogs remain healthy and immune to the virus. The humane society still has a few puppies that have not contracted parvo and are available for foster-to-adoption. Their photos are still up on the Greenbrier Humane Society’s Facebook page.
