Union, WV- In January 2025, the Monroe County Courthouse caught fire.
The fire did little damage, but the sprinkler system caused extensive water damage.
Fortunately, first responders and the Monroe County Commission were able to quickly address the situation. The commission was able to have ServPro on the scene and operational within the same day.
Monroe County Commission President Melvin Young provided an update to 59News on developments at the county’s historic courthouse.
“ServPro is almost finished. There’s a little odor in there. They will take care of that as the construction progresses,” Young said.
The Monroe County Courthouse did not experience any additional flooding after February 15, 2025.
In terms of flooding, the Commission has established a Flood Damage Reporting Portal to assist in assessing the damage caused by the February 15 floods across the county.
