Blacksburg, VA – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, with freezing rain expected to make travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, ice accumulations could reach two-tenths of an inch, particularly at higher elevations. Roanoke, Blacksburg, Boone, and Lewisburg have all been affected. Conditions will improve in the afternoon as temperatures rise into the mid-to-upper 30s, converting freezing rain to regular rainfall.

Residents should prepare for slick roads and potential power outages. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, reduce speeds, and check state road conditions using 511 services.

The highest ice accumulation is expected in elevated areas of western North Carolina, southwest Virginia, and southeast West Virginia. Those in affected areas should stay up to date on weather conditions and take appropriate precautions.
