STANTON COUNTY, Nebraska – According to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office, a Madison woman with five prior DWI convictions is back in jail after being caught driving drunk on Friday.
Deputies stopped 31-year-old Cristal Casanova in her vehicle on Highway 275 east of Norfolk at 8:30 a.m.
During the interaction, the sheriff’s office stated that Casanova appeared to be intoxicated and in possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Deputies also claim she didn’t know where she was or which highway she was on.
Casanova was taken to the sheriff’s office and reportedly failed a breath test. She was arrested and charged with a subsequent offense DWI with a BAC over.150%.
“Another example that dangerous drunk drivers are present at all times of the day and night and diligent enforcement led to preventing another potential tragedy from occurring and also confirms that the system is broken,” said Mike Unger, the sheriff.
A judge set Casanova’s bond at ten percent of $100,000.
