DAVIN W. Virginia – Troopers responded to a complaint of shots fired on Wednesday, February, about 12:04 p.m., according to the West Virginia State Police. When Davin Troopers arrived on the scene on Amethyst Drive in Gillman Bottom, they reportedly “immediately encountered an active hostage situation in which the suspect, Billy Joe Porter (65-year-old white male from Davin, WV), was holding a man at gunpoint.”
According to the WVSP statement, “Troopers attempted to negotiate with the suspect and gave him multiple commands to drop his weapon.” When the hostage attempted to flee, the suspect lifted his weapon toward him. Troopers responded with lethal force. The statement states that Troopers and the hostage were unharmed, but the suspect was pronounced dead on the spot.
This incident is currently being investigated.
