On February 12, 2024, thousands of US citizens’ Social Security payments will increase. This check, issued shortly before Valentine’s Day, will provide citizens with a new budget for the remainder of the year.
The increase we’re referring to is the COLA 2025, which means that Social Security benefits will increase significantly. We do not have a large increase in 2025 like we did a few years ago, but it is sufficient to combat inflation to some extent.
Thus, all payments in February 2025 will be higher than Social Security payments in February 2024. Given that this occurs just before Valentine’s Day for this particular group, we can conclude that plans for that day may change slightly as a result of this influx of funds.
Who gets Social Security for Valentine’s Day?
The next time these checks are sent out will be February 12, 2025. Only group 2 retirees can receive the check on this day, so simply being a member of this group will result in the payment being deposited into the bank.
Thus, group 2 retirees include those who:
- Have started to collect their Social Security benefit since after May 1997.
- Have their birthday between the 1st and 10th day of any month.
This payment is made regardless of the year or month of birth. Only the exact date of birth and year of retirement are important. If you are in that group, your Social Security check will arrive before Valentine’s Day 2025. This is especially true if you have Direct Deposit set as your collection method.

Remaining Social Security payments in February 2025
The Social Security benefit, which will increase to a maximum of $5,180 in February 2025 due to the COLA increase, will also be distributed after Valentine’s Day this year.
Each group receives their benefit on a different day, and this occurs every month of the year, so keep this in mind when planning your household finances.
The Social Security system divides retirees into four groups, with the first group receiving their check on the third day of each month, with some exceptions.
Thus, retirees who are not in groups 1 or 2 may be eligible for one of these benefits. Groups 3 and 4 receive their payments on February 19th and 26th, 2025. Each group receives a payment based on the requirements they meet.
In order to collect the Social Security payment on February 19th, we must have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
If you want to receive Social Security on February 26th, you must be between the 21st and 31st of any month. To that requirement, you must have had your retirement check accepted after May 1997.
