Reno, Ohio — An Ohio hamlet just across the river from West Virginia has witnessed its third earthquake in less than a week.
Another earthquake struck Washington County, Ohio, about a mile and a half east-northeast of Reno, near Williamstown and Waverly, West Virginia, at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, according to the US Geological Service.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 2.4 and a depth of 6.9 miles.
This comes a day after the last earthquake near Reno, which occurred barely two hours after another near Oak Hill in Jackson County, Ohio. Monday’s earthquake in Reno was 2.8 magnitude, while the one near Oak Hill was 2.2 magnitude.
StormTracker 13 Meteorologist Bryan Hughes from WBOY’s sister station WOWK says the quantity of earthquakes is linked to active fault lines in the Ohio River Valley as the Pacific and Atlantic plates strain against each other.
