LEGHANY COUNTY, Va. — On Sunday, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a parent who was following a car that he suspected contained his missing children.
Around 4:01 p.m. on Sunday, deputies from the ACSO were notified of an incident involving four Nelson County children.
Matthew Myers stated that he was chasing a tan Mercury Mountaineer that he suspected had kidnapped his children, Buck and Kenneth Myers.
The car Myers was pursuing attempted to flee and drove onto National Forest property.
Deputies arrived and discovered that Myers was in his vehicle, which had been stuck on the road.
Officials continued their search for the vehicle that Myers was pursuing earlier, and they discovered it broken down and abandoned farther down the road.
During the examination of the vehicle, Myers informed the officers that his children had fled with two other children.
According to officials, the four kids were aged 16, 15, and 12.
According to ACSO, the inquiry quickly evolved from a probable abduction to a hunt for four missing children.
After a thorough search of the region, all four children were found.
Officials say that in coordination with Nelson County authorities, it was decided that Myers would return the kids to Nelson County, where the sheriff’s office would ensure they were returned to a safe and stable environment.
