Goose Creek, South Carolina (WCSC) A Lowcountry community awoke Friday morning to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents serving warrants in the region.
Goose Creek Police Chief LJ Roscoe said that the agents arrived at the 100 block of Brick Greens Road about 8 a.m. Friday.
“I learned later that ICE was serving a warrant at the area. The Goose Creek Police Department was not informed in advance that ICE was going to be at the address, but we were notified after they required assistance,” Roscoe said. “They resolved the issue prior to our arrival, so no one from Goose Creek Police Department was involved or on scene.”
Roscoe alleges ICE did not notify the Goose Creek Police Department that warrants would be carried out under their jurisdiction.
According to Roscoe, an ICE representative “did try to tell me that they notified us in advance,” but after investigating, he discovered that they never called the Goose Creek Police Department.
Witness footage shows ICE agents handcuffing people, with one appearing to record the incident on his cellphone.
In another video, one of the men is led away in handcuffs from a group of unmarked automobiles on the road.
ICE officials have not yet replied to demands for comment on the situation.
South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace announced on X that she would be “out with ICE” Friday morning. It’s uncertain whether she was there during this particular operation.
