Less than 600 migrants entered illegally into the United States from Mexico on Sunday, the lowest amount since President Donald Trump took office.
According to Fox News, none of the nine sectors had more than 200 crossings on Jan. 26, with a total of 582 daily interactions. The Del Rio sector, which would support over 4,000 crossings per day during the peak of the border crisis in December 2023, registered only 60 crossings.
For comparison, the number of border interactions per day during Biden’s final days in office ranged between 1,200 and 1,400.
The numbers have plummeted even further after January 20, according to a Fox News Digital exclusive published last week.
A total of 2,523 border interactions were recorded in the first three days of the Trump administration, with daily totals of 1,073, 736, and 714 from January 20 to January 22.
Meanwhile, 3,908 contacts were recorded during the final days of the Biden administration. According to DHS sources, there were 1,288 encounters nationally on January 17, 1,266 on January 18, and 1,354 on January 19.
The most recent border data were announced on the same day that U.S. Border Patrol agents exchanged gunfire with alleged cartel members near Fronton, Texas, on Monday; neither party was injured.
During his inauguration on January 20, Trump promised to immediately “declare a national emergency at our southern border.”
“All illegal entry will be immediately halted,” the Republican stated. “We will start returning millions of criminal aliens to their home countries.”And I’ll send troops to the southern border to repel our country’s tragic invasion.”
