Madison, Wisconsin – On Wednesday, former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy testified in a confirmation hearing for the position of Secretary of Transportation in the incoming Trump administration.
“As a father of nine kids, I think about transportation quite a bit and about transportation safety a lot,” Sean Duffy told me.
Duffy, who previously represented Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, would head the department in charge of overseeing the nation’s planes, trains, highways, and overall transportation.
Duffy received bipartisan support from both of Wisconsin’s Senators during the hearing.
“Sean will be a strong and dedicated leader of the Department of Transportation,” Senator Ron Johnson (R), who introduced Duffy to the Committee, stated.
“I believe he will help deliver for Wisconsin families, businesses, and workers,” said Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D), who previously collaborated with Duffy on a bipartisan effort to build the St. Croix River Bridge that connects Wisconsin and Minnesota.
According to Duffy, safety would be the Department’s top priority.
“Whether driving, flying, or travelling by train, no federal agency impacts Americans’ daily lives and loved ones more than the Department of Transportation,” Duffy reported.
During the hours-long hearing, Duffy pledged to boost confidence in Boeing and aviation, as well as improve infrastructure across the country.
“If confirmed, we will craft clear regulations which balance safety, innovation and cutting-edge technology,” Duffy told the crowd.
Following the hearing, Sen. Baldwin stated that she expects the confirmation to be approved.
“I think that this will be a nomination that gets bipartisan support,” Baldwin informed reporters.
If the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approves Duffy’s nomination as expected, the entire United States Senate will vote on it. If Duffy receives a majority vote, he will be the next Secretary of Transportation.
