Oak Hills, WV: After a break from Old Man Winter, Mother Nature’s snow guns and Arctic air will return quickly on Tuesday.
Current weather alerts: Cold Weather Advisory for western Greenbrier and western Pocahontas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather service expects to issue winter weather advisories for Pocahontas, western Greenbrier, eastern Nicholas, and the entire Route 19 corridor. A cold weather advisory is in effect for eastern Fayette, eastern Raleigh, and eastern Nicholas counties overnight Tuesday.
Looking Ahead: Temperatures will rise enough to allow rain to fall ahead of the next storm on Saturday. Rainfall amounts of 0.25-0.50 inches are expected. Expect standing water in many places as snow blocks storm drains and piles along the side of the road and in parking lots.
Flood watches will most likely not be issued, but the ongoing snowpack, combined with some runoff, will cause low-lying ponding of water. On Sunday, expect colder temperatures and light snow.
LONGER TERM OUTLOOK: This weekend, a major cold front will sweep into the United States. The coldest weather will occur locally on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21-22, with widespread low temperatures ranging from 0 to negative-20 degrees (coldest in this range in western Greenbrier and western Pocahontas County) and highs ranging from below zero degrees in western Greenbrier and western Pocahontas to 9-15 degrees for the rest of the region.
Sunday afternoon and early Monday will bring 1-2 inches of dry, powdery snow. Another light snowfall is expected on January 19-20, January 23-24, and possibly January 25-26 before a more sustained warm period begins. No snow events are expected to exceed 6 inches.
