The Pickaway Agriculture and Event Center is set to host the 7 Mile Bluegrass Festival from July 24-26, promising a unique experience for attendees.
Now in its sixth year, the festival is organized by Billy Self, who chose to bring the event to Pickaway County, a place with personal significance to him. Self highlighted the importance of selecting the Pickaway Agriculture and Event Center, saying, “We explored new locations, but Pickaway felt like the right choice. The beautiful stage and accessibility for those with disabilities made it the ideal venue.”
This annual gathering offers more than just bluegrass music; it serves as a meaningful fundraiser for veterans. Founded by Billy Self and his brother Chuck, the festival is inspired by their personal experiences and aims to support those who have served in the military. Self shared that the idea came from witnessing a family member who, after serving the country, found themselves homeless and living under a bridge in Chillicothe. “We were moved to start raising funds for veterans facing similar struggles,” Self explained.
Throughout the festival, Self works diligently to collect food and monetary donations for veterans and organizes raffles to raise additional funds. He expressed his gratitude for the support received from local communities, businesses, and individuals who have rallied behind the cause.
βThe 7 Mile Bluegrass Festival goes beyond music; it’s a celebration of community and a show of support for our veterans,β said Self.
The 2024 lineup features headliners like Larry Gillis on Thursday, Williamson Branch and the Grascals on Friday, and the house band 7 Mile, who will perform on both Friday and Saturday nights, showcasing their original tunes.
Festival-goers are welcome to camp on-site with a permit from July 24 at 4 PM to July 28 at noon for $50 per night. For camping arrangements, contact 740-474-2085. Visitors seeking other accommodations are encouraged to explore local lodging options.
Admission to the festival is a donation of six nonperishable food items or personal care products, benefiting veterans in transition and the Chillicothe VA.
The 7 Mile Bluegrass Festival exemplifies the strength of grassroots efforts and community support. It thrives not because of big advertising campaigns, but through the steadfast backing of the community and sponsors.
