What a Chamber of Commerce does

Hello and welcome back to the Chamber Corner! It is my hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and took advantage of Small Business Saturday sales at your favorite local spot, I know I did.

Many times I hear that people are not aware of what a Chamber of Commerce does and the benefits of a membership. So let me give you a few tidbits about what the Pickaway County Chamber of Commerce does and how we create value for our membership.

Many businesses may be eligible for cost savings on group health insurance premiums through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Also, with a Chamber membership there is the opportunity for savings on group workers compensation programs through CareWorks. Businesses who participate in the Pickaway County Safety Council, a program of the Chamber of Commerce overseas, receive a participation rebate from the Bureau of Workers Compensation.

The Chamber has an email blast list of various businesses, organizations, and community members, and we offer low cost advertising through this service. A membership also comes with a business profile and listing on the Chamber website and other sponsorship opportunities at Chamber events, when it is safe to hold them. Every day, I receive phone calls asking for referrals for a specific specialized area or service and the Chamber takes pride in recommending and referring ONLY Chamber members. We also, in correlation with the Pickaway County Welcome Center, publish a yearly visitors guide and membership directory. Members are specifically listed in this publication that is given out to every visitor possible and distributed to other Welcome Centers and Visitors Bureaus all over Ohio.

Some of the other things a Chamber of Commerce does is host networking and relationship building events. This office also is a resource for connecting with other chamber members and legislative representatives. Recently with the CARES Act funding our office served as a portal of information regarding applications and spreading the word to our Pickaway county Businesses.
