Fall is in full swing and Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here in Pickaway County before we know it!
The Chamber has been very busy the last month doing what was possible to help raise funds to offset some of our loss in revenue. The Coronavirus Pandemic hit so many small businesses and organizations very hard this year and the Chamber was no different.
One of our dedicated board members approached us with a fundraising idea from a county in Indiana called, Scarecrow Madness. A group puts together premade scarecrow heads and provides the wooden supports and then community members purchase the packs and then get creative. It was so successful there that we wanted to try our hand at it here so I got to work on our Fall Fundraiser.
The Fall Fundraiser ended up being very similar. With the help of a few of my friends, I traced, cut, sewed, and painted scarecrow heads and faces. With the support of Sutherland’s Circleville we were able to get our materials. I then made connections with the Pickaway Ross Career Center on Mound Street that allowed for the Pathways Carpentry Class to assemble what would soon be our 8 ft tall wooden supports. Their instructor integrated the small project into his curriculum and taught these students the value of helping their community. Without this group and the support of Sutherlands I am not sure we would have accomplished what we did.
In the end we sold over 25 packs to people of the community. We had the opportunity to be featured on Good Day Columbus with Cameron Fontana and sell the scarecrow packs at the Taste of Pumpkin Show event. Even the Artsaround Organization offered an assist by selling packs at the Gallery in Circleville. It was truly the community’s continued support of the Chamber that made this fundraiser so successful and I want to thank everyone who purchased and put up a Scarecrow.
Check out all the Scarecrows on our Facebook page and maybe consider participating next year as we plan to grow and develop the fundraiser.
