On the Farm at A&R Alpaca Farm

WILLIAMSPORT, Ohio (The Cultivator) – Alpaca farms are riddled across the entire United States, with some of the biggest numbers of alpacas being in states such as Ohio, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and California, according to AlpacaSeller.com.
With over 300 alpaca farms in the state of Ohio, alpacas have proven that they are resourceful for many different things. For A&R Alpaca Farm and Gift Shop in Williamsport, Ohio – their fleece is the most popular thing.
“We have dryer balls in our shop. Gloves, hats, mittens, sweaters, anything like that you can make with wool, you can use with alpaca fleece or fiber,” one of the owners, Robin Ridenour, shared.
A&R Alpaca Farms has been around for the past sixteen years, currently a wide variety of uses for their alpacas in the community. Visitors can set up appointments to stop out for a fun day out, granting them the opportunity to learn about alpacas and everything they have to offer.
While fleece may be the more popular thing, Robin shared that they also lease out their alpacas to 4H kids so that they have the opportunity to show them at the fair. This makes their alpacas open to the idea of socializing, which can be fun when guests stop by to visit the farm.
An important thing to know is that A&R Alpaca Farms makes their money in a variety of ways with their alpacas – such as selling their raw fleece to weavers, their manure, which is great for gardens (especially for pumpkins or melons), and offering herdsire services – which allows farms to sell their male as a breeder for other farms to breed with him. There are some alpaca farms that will sell alpaca meat but that is something that A&R Alpaca Farms is not interested in.
“There is a meat market now starting up in the United States, but we don’t participate in that just because I can’t name it and eat it,” Robin admitted.
Agriculture is a huge part of our community, and alpaca farms are a part of that. To learn more about A&R Alpaca Farms, be sure to visit their Facebook page or call 614-361-8789 to set up an appointment to visit.
